Case History #53 Correction of Valgus Deformity with Knee Replacement, Tibial Osteotomy, and Ankle Fusion

Correction of valgus deformity with knee replacement, tibial osteotomy, and ankle fusion

Doctor: S. Robert Rozbruch

Patient: Madeline

Pre-Op: Madeline had pain and difficulty walking. A tibial deformity from an old fracture led to disabling arthritis of knee and ankle. This further worsened the deformity.

A two stage surgical approach was used. First, an ankle fusion and correction of the tibial malunion was done with an Ilizarov Taylor Spatial Frame.

Second, a total knee replacement was done.

Follow Up: By correcting the deformity in 3 places, the leg is straightened, lengthened, and pain is successfully treated. Her gait is much better.
